Ingredients:

For the Chaat:

  • 1 1/2 cups boiled chickpeas (chana)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 small cucumber, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For Garnishing:

  • A handful of sev (crispy gram flour noodles)
  • Pomegranate seeds (optional)
  • Tamarind chutney (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Chickpeas

  1. If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight and boil until tender. For convenience, you can use canned chickpeas; rinse and drain them thoroughly.

Step 2: Assemble the Chaat

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the boiled chickpeas, chopped onion, tomato, cucumber, and green chili.
  2. Add roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, red chili powder, and salt. Toss everything well to coat the chickpeas with the spices.
  3. Drizzle the lemon juice over the mixture and give it a final mix.

Step 3: Garnish and Serve

  1. Transfer the chaat to a serving bowl.
  2. Garnish with sev, pomegranate seeds, and a drizzle of tamarind chutney if desired.
  3. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh crunch and flavors.
